An IFB Initiative

The PGI is managed by the Institute of Forest Biotechnology. The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) sponsors this initiative and co-chairs the Implementation Committee. The Forest Service and other agencies support the PGI through competitive grants to researchers. How we work

The Pine Genome Initiative does not fund projects itself.  It promotes pine tree (conifer) genomics by:

• Organizing the needs of the scientific community into a comprehensive genomic initiative
• Gathering a coalition of key people to raise attention and funding for genomic research
• Educating legislators on the benefits of putting new funds toward this research
• Increasing the availability competitive grants
• Giving international research organizations a mechanism to collaborate in this work
